The Minjiang University Library (hereinafter referred to as the Library) is the document information resource center of Minjiang University, constituting an important component of information construction of Minjiang University and an important base for the school culture and the social culture. Established in September 2002, the Library consists of three campus libraries: Main Campus library, Gongye Road Campus library, and Shoushan Road Campus library, covering a total building area of 14,639.03 square meters and equipped with 1,668 reading seats. The Main Campus library is a turnkey project of the Fuzhou municipal government, with a construction area of 11,800 square meters. It is the first garden-type and ecologically-advanced building in Fujian Province. With solemn and composed overall shape and consistency between color and style and the entire campus, the Library shows harmony with the surrounding buildings. It focuses on ecological effects, highlights the cultural atmosphere and garden features, while its internal environment is elegant, comfortable and beautiful.
After years of construction and development, the Library has gradually established a guarantee system of document information resources with rich content, reasonable structure, and diverse carriers. As of November 30, 2019, the collection in the Library accumulates to 3,343,500 volumes. Among them, there are 1,941,800 paper books, 1,401,700 electronic books, and 3,618 classified periodicals. The Library has also introduced 43 electronic databases in Chinese and foreign languages and 33 trial databases, and built databases such as Mindu Culture Database, Haixi Financial Database, Haixi Clothing Database, and Electronic teaching Reference Database. There are nearly 160 computers with 76TB disk storage.
Adhering to the concept of “reader-oriented, distinctive building, active service, and full guarantee”, the Library strives to expand and improve information service functions and innovate on reader service models, thus providing multi-level and high-level information resource services. The Library adopts the integrated management and service mode of collection, borrowing, reading, retrieval and consultation. It is open for approximately 90.75 hours per week, with uninterrupted full-coverage network service. The research rooms and multimedia reading rooms are free of charge. In addition to regular book and periodical lending services, the readers can also access bibliographic information query, CD download, new book report, network database retrieval, browsing of multimedia resources, virtual reference query, guidance for readers, interlibrary borrowing and document delivery, mobile library, discipline information navigation and other forms of electronic information services, as well as query and inspection, orientation service and other in-depth information services. Meanwhile, the Library has established a discipline librarian system to actively carry out professional and personalized discipline services, providing advices and support for the discipline construction of the university. The course of Information Retrieval and Management and information resource lectures help strengthen the readers’ information literacy education and training.
With a focus on the construction of human resources, the Library strives to build a well-structured team of high-quality compound talents. At present, there are 66 staff members, including 43 permanent ones and 23 temporary ones. Among them, 12 have senior titles, 22 have intermediate titles, 17 have junior titles, and 23 are masters. The structure of the personnel team tends to be younger and more professional, which lays a solid foundation for the long-term development of the Library. The Library comprises the Resource Construction Department, Borrowing Promotion Department, Newspaper Reading Department, Information Consulting Department, Digital Technology Department, Teaching Training Department, and the Office.
The Library will keep up with the development requirements of Minjiang University, continuously strengthen the connotation construction, and improve the level of information services, striving to turn itself into a disciplinary, cultural, digital, and multifunctional intelligent library.
